Sierra F.H. Chao
I’m Sierra Chao—entrepreneur, nonprofit advocate, grant strategist, and author.
I’m the founder of Roots Partners, a grant writing firm I started in 2020 to help nonprofits find the funding they need to do more good in their communities. Over the years, my work has taken me from nonprofit leadership and fundraising to building a business and leading a team, all while staying closely connected to causes and organizations I care deeply about.
Outside of work, I’m a writer at heart and am slowly making more space for that part of myself.
I live in beautiful Utah with my husband, our son, and our dog, Klaus. I’m happiest at home with my family, somewhere in the mountains, or curled up with a great book and a cup of coffee. I love thoughtful conversations, quiet mornings, a solid storm, good writing, and building a life that leaves room for both meaningful work and the people I love most.

Roots Partners
I am the Founder and President of Roots Partners, a grant writing and nonprofit development firm I founded in 2020 to help mission-driven organizations build sustainable funding strategies and expand their impact. I lead a team of grant professionals who provide comprehensive grant research, strategy, writing, project management, and reporting services to nonprofits across the country. We help organizations develop strong grant pipelines, build meaningful relationships with funders, and pursue opportunities that align with their missions and long-term goals. Through Roots Partners, I have helped organizations secure grants ranging from $5,000 to more than $10 million. I also bring firsthand nonprofit leadership experience to this work, which gives me a strong understanding of the challenges nonprofit leaders face as they balance fundraising, programming, operations, and growth.
